New Jersey nurse Lexi Kuenzle was reportedly suspended after she had spoken out about one of the hospital’s surgeons for making fun of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The confrontation took place at a nurses’ station, where Kuenzle reacted with shock after hearing about Kirk’s death, saying:

“Oh my God! That’s terrible! I love him!”

To which, Dr. Matthew Jung allegedly replied:

“I hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it.”

Kuenzle then immediately pushed back and stated:

“You’re a doctor. How could you say someone deserved to die?”

She later went online and posted about the whole incident on Instagram, which triggered her suspension without pay. According to reports, a union representative even told her to start looking for another job.

Lawsuit against Englewood Health

In response to the suspension, Lexi Kuenzle filed a lawsuit in Bergen County Superior Court against Englewood Health and Dr. Jung. In her lawsuit, she alleged that the hospital retaliated against her for raising ethical concerns. The filing also pointed to the Hippocratic Oath and the American Medical Association’s Code of Ethics, arguing that Jung violated both with his behavior. The lawsuit also went on to describe how Jung offered to “buy lunch” for the nurses who overheard his comments, excluding Kuenzle. The case quickly gained traction online, gaining supporters from the medical community who criticized Englewood Health’s actions. One physician even wrote:

“If this story happened as described, I hope she sues and wins big.”

Another nurse added:

“The public has the right to know who thinks it is acceptable to kill someone for their beliefs.”

Englewood Health speaks out about the incident

Following the backlash and an internal investigation, Englewood Health has since confirmed that they have accepted Dr. Jung’s resignation and reinstated Kuenzle. The hospital stated:

“We have accepted the physician’s resignation. The nurse is expected to work her scheduled shifts.”

The hospital then went on to insist that Kuenzle was never officially fired and would not lose any pay. The statement read:

“The nurse was never fired; was never told she would be fired by Englewood Hospital; and will not miss any pay as part of our review of this matter.”
