The controversy around BJP MLA Bidyasing Engleng after a video allegedly showing him in an inappropriate situation went viral. The video quickly started spreading across Diphu and beyond, with residents expressing their shock and anger, questioning the moral standing of a public representative. Over just a few hours, the clip started circulating widely on WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, and local forums, fueling all kinds of debates on political morality.
Many citizens noted that the scandal reflected a growing gap between politicians’ words and actions. Community elders, student leaders, and women’s groups also came out to call the whole incident a “betrayal of public trust.” The incident not only embarrassed the ruling BJP party but also gave the opposition fresh reason to attack the government’s credibility.
Bidyasing Engleng’s viral video sparks widespread protests across Diphu
Besides the online outburst and reactions, the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee and the Mahila Congress also staged a sit-in protest at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) Gate against MLA Bidyasing Engleng and his actions. The demonstration was led by APCC media panelist Charisma Rongpipi and denounced the MLA’s actions as “unacceptable for a public representative.”
Rongpipi accused Engleng of eroding the dignity of the people’s mandate and vowed to intensify further agitation. Notably, the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) and the Women Karbi Students’ Association (WKSA) also joined the protests, with APHLC president JI Kathar directly urging the Governor, Chief Minister, and Assembly Speaker to remove Engleng under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

Posters condemning the MLA have also appeared across town, showcasing public fury. Meanwhile, on social media, netizens have amplified calls for action and voiced their frustration, demanding higher ethical standards in governance.
