Dallas police have identified and arrested a man named Yordanis Cobos-Martinez for one of the city’s most gruesome crimes in recent memory
Officers arrested Yordanis for beheading a 50 year-old victim inside an east Dallas motel room.
According to witnesses, the attacker used a machete during the assault, following which authorities quickly identified and arrested the suspect at the scene.

Both men worked at the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard, east of Downtown and it has been revealed that Cobos-Martinez was cleaning a room when Chandra Nagamallaiah came to tell him not to use a washing machine that was broken.
Video then showed Cobos-Martinez leave the room, pull out a machete and start attacking Nagamallaiah despite his wife and son intervening.
Cobos-Martinez then took Nagamallaiah’s cell phone and key card from his pockets before again resuming the attack until Nagamallaiah’s head was removed from his body.
The suspect then kicked the head twice into the parking lot and proceeded to pick it up and carry it to the dumpster and put it inside.
37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the killing of 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, an Indian-American in East Dallas after an argument.

Police have confirmed and arrested a man named Yordanis Cobos-Martinez for beheading a 50-year-old man, Chandra Nagamallaiah, at a Dallas motel room. Officers first responded to a stabbing call on Samuell Boulevard at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Upon their arrival, they were shocked to discover that the victim had been beheaded. Just minutes after the attack, police located Cobos-Martinez nearby, who was drenched in blood and still holding the machete that he used in the attack.
Reason behind the attack
According to the arrest affidavit, Cobos-Martinez attacked, getting enraged during an interaction with Nagamallaiah. During the spur of the moment, Cobos-Martinez pulled out a machete and launched a frenzied assault. Just minutes after the attack, witnesses told investigators that he continued striking until Nagamallaiah was decapitated.
Charges and allegations
Dallas police have arrested and, according to social media reports, charged a man named Cobos-Martinez with capital murder, with jail records identifying him as an immigrant. South Lake Tahoe police had first arrested him in late 2017, before arresting him after he attempted to steal a woman’s car while n*ked. Following his failed attempt, authorities charged him with carjacking and false imprisonment in that case.

Cuban immigrant Cobos-Martinez was a 37-year-old transient citizen of Dallas born on 20 March, 1988 who moved between states and drew police attention for erratic and criminal behavior. He had a violent record of being involved with bizarre incidents that made headlines well before this latest case. Following his arrest in Dallas, which turned into the most disturbing chapter, he is now accused of a murder so brutal that it has rattled the entire community.
He is an illegal immigrant and was released by ICE on 13 January, 2025. According to Harris County court records, Cobos-Martinez was previously charged with indecency with a child and assault causing bodily injury in 2018 and was also arrested in California in 2017 after he allegedly attempted to carjack a woman while n*ked.
