Janelle Marra fired by defense secretary Pete Hegseth
On Thursday, September 4, 2025, the far-right account Libs of TikTok tagged Secretary Hegseth in a post about Marra’s LinkedIn profile. The post showed how Marra listed herself as the EMF-Bravo Navy Deputy Medical Director for Transgender Healthcare. The account framed her work as problematic and asked Hegseth to “look into it.” Just hours later, Hegseth replied with a tweet that stated:
“Pronouns UPDATED: She/Her/Fired.”
The comment seemingly suggested that they had removed Marra from her position, although the Pentagon has not confirmed the dismissal officially as of now. Following the move, many critics called Hegseth’s response reckless and politically motivated and accused him of caving in to extremist pressure.

Dr. Janelle Marra is a U.S. Navy Commander, physician and medical professional who has dedicated her career to serving military personnel. Although her exact age has not been publicly disclosed, she is likely in her early 40s. She is widely recognized for her extensive medical training and leadership within the Navy’s healthcare system.
