Mysore Dasara 2025 overview and significance
Dasara, also known as Navarathri, is Karnataka’s official state festival and spans across nine nights and finally concludes on the tenth day. The final day of the festival is called Vijayadashami and symbolizes the victory of Goddess Chamundeshwari over the demon Mahishasura. The Mysore Dasara is a festival that honors over 400 years of royal tradition and cultural heritage and this year, Mysore Dasara will extend to an extra 11 days. The festival will offer a richer experience of music, dance, exhibitions, and vibrant processions.
The 59-year-old Mysore Dasara elephant Abhimanyu will perform as the lead elephant in the Jamboo Savari, Mysore Dasara 2025 and for the sixth time, Abhimanyu will carry the howdah with the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari during the Jamboo Savari.
Mysore Dasara 2025 dates and inaugural session details
The Mysore Dasara 2025 will run for 11 days, starting from September 22 to October 2. It will officially begin with the inauguration ceremony at Chamundi Hills between 10:10 AM and 10:40 AM on September 22. Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mushtaq will lead the event and the evening will see cultural performances inaugurated in front of the illuminated Mysore Palace at 5 PM, with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presiding over the event.

- Dasara Wrestling & Sports: This event will feature traditional and modern sporting contests that highlight strength and skill.
- Book Fair & Art Camp: this event will feature literary and artistic expressions flourishing during the festival.
- Yoga Dasara: The Yoga Dasara promotes health and wellness with daily yoga sessions and competitions.
- Rangoli Competition: This event celebrates decorative art traditions with vibrant, intricate patterns.
- Heritage Walk & Cycling: The event will connect participants to Mysore’s rich history through guided tours and rides.
- Farmer’s Dasara & Milking Competition: This event will honor agrarian culture with contests and temple festivities.
- Couple Tonga Ride: The Couple Tonga Ride will showcase traditional attire with horse-drawn carriage parades.
- Air Show: It is the biggest attraction of 2025, and it is conducted by the Indian Air Force on October 2 at Chamundi Vihar grounds.
- Drone Show: The event will feature spectacular drone formations with sound and light orchestration on September 28, 29, and October 1 and 2 evenings.
- Dog Show & Art Fair: it is a complementary event that celebrates animals and creativity.

During Dasara, the Mysore Palace is illuminated from 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM on the first eight days (22nd Sep to 02nd Oct 2025) and from 07:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Vijayadashami Day (02nd October 2025) with 97,000 incandescent lamps.

The tickets for Mysore Dasara 2025 are currently available online via the official Mysore Dasara website. The ticket prices will vary by event and seating category in the following way:
Gold Card
The gold card is approximately ₹2,500, and grants seamless access to key venues such as Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hill, Zoo. The card also provides priority seating for Jamboo Savari and the Torch Light Parade and access to the drone shows.
Individual Event Tickets
The individual tickets range from ₹100 to ₹500, depending on the event and seat location.
In order to book tickets, visitors need to provide a valid government-issued ID, while third-party bookings require authorization letters and identity proofs for both parties.
