Homebound, which is Neeraj Ghaywan’s latest Hindi-language drama, recently premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Neeraj is currently 45 years old and has carved a unique path in Indian cinema, going from engineering and corporate life to becoming one of the country’s most respected film directors.

Neeraj Ghaywan attended Kendriya Vidyalaya Shivrampally for his early schooling and later graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, in 2002. After completing his graduation, he pursued an MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune.

Neeraj Ghaywan started out his career in the corporate sector, with various roles at UTV New Media, Hindustan Times, and Tech Mahindra. However, his passion for cinema eventually led him to write film criticism, and renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap seemingly recognized Ghaywan’s talent and gave him an active role in the making of Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and Ugly (2013). Ghaywan then went on to make his directorial debut with the short film Independence and then directed the critically acclaimed Shor and Epiphany.
He made his feature debut with Masaan (2015), which premiered at Cannes ‘Un Certain Regard.’ The film won the Fipresci Prize and Promising Future Award and served as the launching pad for both his career and lead actor Vicky Kaushal. Later in 2021, Ghaywan contributed Geeli Pucchi to the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans, which is a segment widely regarded as the anthology’s most impactful. Now with his latest film, Homebound, Ghaywan takes a bold step, immersing his cast in rural life and workshops to ensure authenticity.
