Earlier, social media platforms were buzzing with the name of Carlos Alcaraz, for two reason,s one that the 22-year-old beat Opelka under the lights at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 5-time grand slam winner was also making waves due to his new haircut style.
Carlos Alcaraz’s New Haircut
For the unsure, the buzzcut hairstyle of Carlos Alcaraz was influenced via a botched attempt by his older brother, Álvaro Alcaraz Garfia, who allegedly tried to give him a trim, prior to the tournament. The incident took place, when the player’s usual barber was absent and as he wanted a new haircut, he asked his brother to do it instead, however, the things didn’t go well.
During his post-match press conference at the US Open, Carlos explained that his brother Alvaro, had mistakenly shaved too much while trying to give him a trim.
“I felt like my hair was really long already, and before the tournament, I said that I really wanted to get a haircut. Suddenly, my brother just misunderstood the machine. He just cut it, and the only way to fix it is just to shave it off,” he said.
Alcaraz revealed that New York was too far for his usual barber, Víctor Martínez, to travel to after he had accompanied him in Paris during the French Open which is why he had his brother do the haircut.
“You can do whatever you want, you have permission,” was Victor’s response to the now viral haircut on Instagram.

Victor tarted being a hairdresser as a hobby because he used to work at ElPozo and would get up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work, and when he got home in the evenings, he would cut his friends’ hair in the bathroom with a clipper he bought. Since he was 17, he was drawn to the profession and he then enrolled in an academy to obtain his official qualification.
He then took courses in Granada and Valencia and began gaining experience in the hairdressing sector of a tattoo studio. He was hired at a barbershop in El Palmar after which he set up his own business by investing more than 6,000 euros.
The first day he cut Carlos Alcaraz’s hair was April 5, 2023 with the haircut costing the tennis player 13 euros. Victor who is aged 30 now has 11 years of experience as a barber and was referred to Alcaraz by his close friend and Victor’s neighbour, Jose Ramon who was also a local customer.

The bizarre look, described by his fans as a “shaved head” or “bald Alcaraz” sparked an ignition of widespread memes and debate across the internet, with the crowd at the game roaring in approval of his new haircut, after the pro player asked them whether they like it or not, during his on-court interview.
However, the buzz was instantly taken over by his dominating play, that positioned him as a “star of the moment.”

As of now, the Spanish national, who began his tennis career at the tender age of 15, has bagged 22 ATP singles titles. His parents Carlos Alcaraz González and Virginia Garfia Escandón, gave birth to four children, meaning the professional player has three younger brothers, named Alvaro, Sergio and Jaime.
