A video of the incident has now gone viral, sparking a widespread debate online about the safety of tourists in Venice, Italy.

The video was posted last week by Greene’s daughter, Karis McElroy.
The incident occurred on August 14, 2025, in the Santa Maria del Giglio area of Venice, Italy, and involved an American tourist from North Carolina named Christina Cadieu Greene, who is a mother of eight from North Carolina, ISA.
Greene grabbed the youngest girl thief’s ponytail after finding and held it for about 50 minutes, refusing to let go. The girl woman heard saying, “You stole my wallet, with my passport in it. You’re not getting away. I’m not stopping, kid,” and then, “Girl, I have eight kids. You can’t do anything to me.”
One of the suspects then swung a bag with a metal water bottle in it and hit Greene in the head which caused a laceration that required stitches and a black eye and required medical attention.
The two teenage suspects were taken to a local police station, where they were charged with theft and released on bail and were seen back on the streets with tourists just two days later.

As aforesaid,the internet is currently buzzing with a viral video of a US tourist, identified as Christina Cadieu Greene, who was visiting Vanice with her husband. While traveling, her purse carrying her passport, AirPods, credits cards, cash, alongside other stuff was stolen by a teenager, whom she reportedly tracked using the ‘Find My Friends,’ feature of Apple AirPods.
After finding the teenager, the woman grabbed the teenage with her hairs and dragged her alongside. The dramatic incident, which sparks fury amongst the travelers, took place on august 14, when Greene was on vacation.
The video was initially shared on TikTok, by Christina Cadieu Greene’s daughter, and eventually it was picked by fellow social media users and it found its own way to trend online.

What Did the Viral Video Feature?
The viral video of Christina Cadieu Greene has so far, garnered more than 10 million views. The 51-second viral video features Greene grabbing the teenager thief by her ponytail, while another teenage girl, was continuously seen holding onto her hand. The teen seems to be saying something as she pleads Cadieu Greene to leave her hair.
The teenager can be seen visibly in pain as Greene kept dragging her by holding onto her ponytail. The entire area is crowded and people seem to be just looking around instead of helping as seen in the viral video. Meanwhile, Greene can be heard saying continuously ‘You stole my purse,’ while the teenager can be heard yelling in pain.

The mother of 8 kids told the thief, “You’re not getting to me,” while the teenager can be heard saying “Calm down,” to Christina Cadieu Greene. The other teenage girl, who seems to be holding her hand seemingly tries to covers the camera after realizing that they were shooting the video.
What Did Christina Cadieu Greene’s Daughter Reveal?
As per information provided by Christina Cadieu Greene’s daughter, three teenage girls were involved in this theft incident, and that her mother and her step-father located those teenagers via the ‘Find My Friends,’ feature of AirPods.
Additionally, she revealed that one of the girl, who had the purse ran away with it, while they managed to hold onto the other two, as can be seen in the video. As per counts given by Greene’s daughter, Christina Cadieu Greene didn’t care about any of other stuff inside the purse but wanted her passport so she could go back home.
The third suspect, who fled with Greene’s wallet, took it to the airport and anonymously turned it in to a US liaison office which lead Greene to recover her wallet, which contained her passport and credit cards, but her AirPods and about $200 in cash were missing.
Greene and her husband eventually made it onto their planned Mediterranean cruise along with receiving a necklace from a local jewelry shop owner.
