Ryan Routh convicted guilty of Donald Trump assassination attempt
Last year, on September 15, 2024, a man named Ryan Routh attempted to assassinate Donald Trump while he was golfing at his West Palm Beach course. Secret Service agents managed to spot Ryan Routh hiding in the bushes with a rifle before an agent opened fire, forcing Routh to flee. He was later arrested nearby, and prosecutors argued that he had a clear intent to assassinate Trump.
During the course of the trial, Routh made bizarre statements about golf, kindness, and human evolution, leaving jurors unsettled. Moreover, the court went into a dramatic frenzy after right the guilty verdict, when Ryan attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen. Ryan ultimately stopped after his daughter, Sara, kept pleading with him. As a result, the case continues to raise questions about his state of mind and his exact motives behind the attempt.
Routh was convicted of attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment; possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment; assaulting a federal officer (the Secret Service Special Agent, Robert Fercano), which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison; felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison; and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a federal district court judge will determine his sentence now after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

A federal jury convicted Ryan Wesley Routh, 59, of Hawaii, for attempting to assassinate President Donald J. Trump when he was a presidential candidate in a planned sniper attack at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Ryan was seen pointing an AK-style rifle at Special Agent Fercano from a sniper’s hide in the fence abutting the golf course. Agent Fercano opened fire at Routh, who fled with a loaded SKS-style rifle equipped with a scope, a magazine containing an additional nineteen rounds of ammunition and the safety off, steel armor plates, and a camera attached to the fence pointing toward the sixth hole green of the golf course, where Routh had been hiding then found.
He is known for his eccentric personality and has a history of making controversial public remarks and unusual beliefs. According to his daughter, Sara, Ryan was a man deeply involved in community projects and creativity, and argued that the media has portrayed him unfairly.
