For the unversed, earlier, reports emerged indicating that a 23-year-old woman from Kothamangalam took her own life in her home on Saturday, leaving behind a note, wherein she accused her boyfriend of harassment and forced conversion.

The Kothamangalam police in Kerala’s Ernakulam on Monday, August 11, detained Rameez Mohammad for abetting the suicide of his partner, 23-year-old Sona Eldhose. Rameez and his family have been accused of harassing the deceased to get religiously converted before getting married.
Sona, a 23-year-old teacher training student in Kerala’s Ernakulam district died by suicide after harassment by her partner and his family over religious conversion.
What Exactly Happened?
As aforesaid, Kothamangalam authorities on Saturday, August 9, discovered a woman hanging in her bedroom, alongside a suicide note, raising allegations against her boyfriend Rameez Mohammed. The suicide note reveals that Rameez was harassing the woman and forcing her to convert her religion.
The police have also found evidence of Rameez beating Sona from a WhatsApp chat between the two. Rameez was previously accused in a drug case.
Rameez brought Sona to his Panayikulam home under the false pretense that he could get her married to her but insisted that she convert to Islam. When she refused, the police say he beat her.

Following the discovery of the suicide note, the authorities apprehended the man and he is being questioned right now. Though, earlier, the Ernakulam Rural police didn’t charge him of anything, however, currently the officials have invoked charges against Rameez.
A suicide note recovered by the police revealed that the deceased was harassed to undergo religious conversion by Rameez and his family in order to get legally married and she was also allegedly physically assaulted with Rameez cheating on her as well.
As per authorities, the two had been studying at the same college in Aluva and had been in a relationship and were discussing marriage. Though, things didn’t seem to be working well, as Rameez seemed to have backtracked from his promise and wasn’t even responding to Sona’s calls or messages, as of late, and later blocked her on WhatsApp. The distressed woman took her own life in her home on Saturday.
After police recovered her body, they rushed her to a nearby hospital, wherein she was declared brought dead at 2.43 p.m. Her funeral was held on Sunday, after authorities handed over her body to her family, following an autopsy at Government Medical College, Kalamassery.

Charges Against Rameez Mohammed
The authorities has charged Rameez Mohammed under the sections of BNS, section 69, 108, and section 115, means s*xual intercourse by employing deceitful means, abetment to suicide, and voluntarily causing hurt respectively.
About The Victim’s Family
Reports suggest that the victim’s father died three months ago, while her mother works as a housemaid, and her brother works as a driver. Sona was a TTC student at an institute in Muvattupuzha and was in her second year. She was in a relationship with Rameez Mohammed, who is a resident of Aluva. As per the counts given by the victim’s family, they were discussing about their marriage.

Police Investigation
Authorities revealed earlier that they have seized her mobile phone and are currently investigating the chat history and other evidence. Additionally, they revealed that the suspect in the case, Rameez Mohammed, is a daily wage worker and recently he joined temporary work at the airport.
