Rajeev Pratap found dead after previously going missing
Rajeev aka Rajiv Pratap, a renowned journalist, vanished on September 16, after he left for Gangori–Bhatwari but never returned. After his family filed a missing person complaint the same night, police eventually found his damaged Alto car in the Bhagirathi River near Gangori two days later, on September 18. Ten days after going missing, authorities recovered his body from the Joshiyara Barrage in Uttarkashi on Sunday. The discovery has intensified public scrutiny of the case, especially with his family alleging that his disappearance and death were not accidental.
Rajeev Pratap’s wife speaks out
Following the news about his death, Rajeev Pratap’s wife, Muskan, has spoken out firmly, saying that her husband was abducted and killed. She revealed that she last spoke to him around 11 p.m. on the night that he went missing, adding that he sounded anxious after uploading investigative reports about a district hospital and a school. Muskan revealed that her husband had told her that several people were threatening to kill him if he didn’t take the videos down. Later, her last message to him at 11:50 p.m. went undelivered, which raised her suspicion that something had already gone wrong. She further added in the missing complaint:
“Many people in the area hold enmity against him… We fear that some untoward incident may have happened. Please help us in locating him.”

According to Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police Sarita Dobhal, Rajeev Pratap likely met with an accident, which caused his car to fall into the river. According to her, police officials retrieved the vehicle on September 19, but his body was swept downstream and eventually found at Joshiyara Barrage on Sunday.
Police stated that they recovered CCTV footage, which showed him sitting alone in his car near a bus stop on September 18 at 11:20 p.m. The next morning, authorities discovered his damaged car in the river, and during the inspection, police found a slipper inside the vehicle. Authorities conducted a postmortem after recovering the body. However, the family remains unconvinced by the official explanation and has come up with various speculations.
