Monet won the title after edging out the 22 other contestants, including Olivia Lauren of Cuba, who finished second, and Ha Tam Nhu of Vietnam, who secured third place. Despite the win, Monet’s crowning moment got embroiled in controversy after several contestants appeared to cheer for the runner-up instead of her. Despite the on-stage drama, Midori walked away with the crown and the responsibility of representing her community worldwide.

Midori Monet is a young beauty queen who was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, and currently lives in Seattle. She is the daughter of a church music minister father and a fashion designer mother. Monet initially came out as gay before later embracing her true identity as a transgender woman.
