Earlier, reports surfaced revealing the tragic incident of the Ingalls Shipbuilding’s shooting that took the life of a one person on Friday.

Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a supplier of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels and has been a large contributor to the local economy for 85 years. It is located in Pascagoula, a city with a population of 22,000.

What Exactly Happened?

As counts given by Pascagoula Police Department, the investigators responded to a call about the firing incident at Ingalls Shipbuilding, which is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi, on Friday at around 7:32 A.M.

After reaching the location, the officials identified the only victim, as a shipbuilder by the parent company of Ingalls Shipbuilding, Huntington Ingalls Industries. Upon their arrival at the scene, the investigators located the only victim, who already died due to injuries. Both the victim and shooter were employees at Ingalls Shipbuilding.

The officials have captured the shooting suspect, Curtis James Jr., 25, a Black American of Mobile, who was taken into custody without incident by Pascagoula police after killing a fellow paint department employee around 7:32 a.m. Friday. Police Chief Terry Scott said the victim, identified only as a man from Prichard, was a coworker of James who fired two shots and the victim was found dead at the scene.

“Pretty sure both guys knew each other,” Scott said. “There may have been an argument earlier this week, so thank goodness it was just between the two.”

Later, Huntington Ingalls Industries took to their website as they penned a heartfelt tribute for the victim whose identity will be revealed after informing the next of his kin.

What Did Huntington Ingalls Industries Say?

Earlier, HII, short for Huntington Ingalls Industries took to their official website and revealed that they are “deeply saddened by the passing of a fellow shipbuilder,” while asserting that the victim was fatally shot in the early hours of Friday.

In addition, they extended their sympathy and condolence’s “to the employee’s family and friends during this difficult time.” Furthermore, they revealed that due to respecting the privacy of the victim’s family, they aren’t able to release his name or any other information related to him.

Meanwhile, an investigation in the case is ongoing, and the authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact on 228-938-6707. While, various investigative agencies are involved in the investigation, the authorities have still advised the public to stay away from the area.

Initially, the investigators had made the entire area under lockdown as they continued with their search for the potential suspect, and they told the employees to take shelter as everyone was sent home with pay. At around 9.40 a.m. on Friday, when the investigators apprehended the suspect, they lifted the lockdown.
