Nepal’s Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was violently chased and assaulted by a Gen-Z mob during protests in Kathmandu. Videos of the incident show the 65-year-old running through streets while pursued by dozens of demonstrators. At one point, a young protester kicks him to the ground, sending him crashing into a red wall, but Paudel quickly gets up and flees again before the video cuts off. The protests erupted over corruption and a temporary social media ban and have escalated despite the ban being lifted.

Bishnu Prasad Paudel is a veteran Nepali politician who was born on November 20, 1959 in Syangja District, Nepal. He was born to parents Devilal Paudel and Devaki Paudel and raised in a modest household. Bishnu took interest in politics at a young age during the repressive Panchayat regime and gained prominence following his dramatic jailbreak from Bhairahawa. As of 2025, Paudel is currently 65 years old and serves as the Finance Minister of the Nepali government.
Education
Bishnu Prasad Paudel obtained his early schooling in Syangja District, and after completing his secondary education, he moved to Rupandehi. He then attended Tribhuvan University, where he earned a master’s degree in Arts, specializing in Nepali literature. After completing his education, he briefly worked as a teacher before eventually stepping into politics.

Political career
Bishnu Prasad Paudel started out his political journey back in 1976 with the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist–Leninist). He later got elected to Parliament from Palpa-3 in 1994 and went on to hold several key posts, including Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture in 1997, Minister for Water Resources in 2008, and Defence Minister in 2011. He eventually became the finance minister during the 2015 Indian blockade and then again in 2021 and 2024. He is also currently serving as Deputy Prime Minister while holding his post as the finance minister. Despite his key influence, Bishnu has notably been the center of financial controversy throughout his career due to his involvement in land deals and corruption allegations.
