Bob Vogel arrested
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested former world champion shooter and SWAT officer Bob Vogel on August 8, 2025. Police arrested Bob in St. Marys, Ohio, on six felony charges related to child pornography and other offenses involving minors. Following the arrest, authorities are now holding Vogel at the Auglaize County Jail without bond, along with a court appearance pending in the coming days.
Charges and allegations
Authorities have since charged Vogel with multiple charges and allegations, including the following:
- Pandering obscenity involving a minor—production of obscene materials
- Producing, creating, and directing obscene performance involving a minor
- Buying, procuring, or possessing obscene material involving minors
- Disrupting public service related to mass communications
- Offenses involving underage persons, specifically selling or purchasing alcohol for minors (two counts)
If Vogel gets convicted of the main charges, he could face up to eight years in prison and fines as high as $15,000. Moreover, he could face another 25 years on the sex offender registry.

Robert “Bob” Gordon Vogel is a former world champion shooter and police officer who was born October 7, 1981, in St. Marys, Ohio. He grew up on a rural farm and developed a love of shooting and the outdoors at an early age. After completing his high school, Vogel completed a two-year Police Academy program, following which he started out on two professional careers in both law enforcement and competitive shooting.
Over the years, he has built a reputation as the only law enforcement officer to win both World and National Championships in the practical pistol disciplines of IPSC, USPSA, and IDPA. He has held 3 World Champion titles and 24 National Championship wins in total.

Bob Vogel is currently 43 years old and stands at a height of 6 feet 5 inches (196 cm).
Education
Bob Vogel attended St. Marys Memorial and Rhodes State College, where he earned an associate degree in Applied Science with a focus on Criminal Justice. He then graduated as the valedictorian of his Police Academy class and got further training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA). He also got certifications as a Special Response Team (SRT) member.

Bob Vogel had an extensive professional career blending both competitive shooting and law enforcement. As a competitive shooter, Vogel won in USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, and ProAm tournaments. He is one of the most decorated shooters, and he has an unmatched record in pistol disciplines. Over the years, Vogel has been featured as an expert on TV (History Channel’s “Top Shot”) and maintains Grand Master and Distinguished Master rankings in several divisions.
As a police officer, Vogel served with the Ohio police force for over 10 years, including eight years as a full-time cop and SWAT team member. Vogel later worked as a firearms instructor for law enforcement and SWAT teams while providing training to various organizations, including FBI SWAT teams. Vogel also founded Vogel Dynamics, where he offers firearms instruction to both civilians and law enforcement.
