According to Queens prosecutors, the incident started when Cruz Gomez, who was with several men outside a restaurant, allegedly offered money to the victim and her mother in exchange for s*x acts. The conversation sparked a heated argument and a physical altercation involving Alvarez’s stepfather and boyfriend. As bystanders intervened to separate the group, Cruz Gomez allegedly got into his Chevrolet Suburban and hit the four people as they walked away, killing the teenager and injuring her mother and stepfather. Cruz then reportedly reversed his SUV and crashed it into another vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot but was eventually apprehended by police.
