During the Q&A session at Utah Valley University, Kozak asked Kirk how many transgender Americans had been mass shooters in the past decade. Kirk responded, “too many,” to which Kozak followed up with another question asking how many shootings had occurred overall in the U.S. As Kirk replied, “Counting or not counting gang violence?” a gunshot rang out just moments later, striking Kirk in the neck and sending the event into chaos. Following the fatal shooting, Kozak shared an emotional video online describing his role in Kirk’s last moments. He shared:
“I don’t know how to make this video; it’s been a rough 24 hours. I was the last person to talk to Charlie Kirk.”
Kozak then addressed the shooter and those celebrating, saying:
“First off, you sick f—ing psychos who think this is the answer, it’s not. A father doesn’t have his kids anymore. Charlie had two kids and a wife.”
He also went on to reflect on the tragedy through his own life as a parent, saying:
“Not to make this about me, but I have two kids and a wife, and if my one-year-old boy, like his one-year-old boy, will grow up without memories of his dad, it’s a tragedy.”
Kozak also went on to urge people online not to dehumanize Kirk despite political disagreements, saying:
“As much as I disagree with Charlie Kirk—but he is still a human being. Have we forgotten that?”

Tyler lives in a six-bedroom home valued at around $600,000 in Washington, Utah.
His mother Amber previously attended the University of Utah and works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services.
His father Matt Robinson is a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and is a registered Republican voter. Tyler also has two brothers named Austin and Logan.
