Pilot Simon Hewitt is identified as the third victim in the helicopter crash in the Isle of Wight

Earlier, reports emerged stating that three people died in a tragic accident, and one remains in serious condition after a helicopter crash occurred on the Isle of Wight in Britain. Authorities in Britain stated that there were “four people in total were on board,” with one person hospitalized in serious condition.

What Exactly Happened?

The tragic helicopter crash took place on the A3020 Shanklin Road, at around 9:20 A.M. on Monday. The four were on board on a flying lesson and out of the 4, three died from the injuries they sustained during the incident, while the remaining survivor was airlifted to Southampton University Hospital’s major trauma centre.

The authorities have identified the victims of the crash, with two of them being Polish nationals named as Justyna Czoska, and Wojtek Kowalkowski, and now the third victim has been identified as the pilot of the helicopter, Simon Hewitt.

Media reports identified the third victim of the crash as Simon Hewitt, whose family revealed they were “absolutely broken,” after learning about the tragic demise news of the 54-year-old. The victim passed away alongside his fellow passengers, who were identified as a 52-year-old, and 49-year-old.

Polish nationals Justyna Czoska and her partner, Wojtek Kowalkowski from Bloxham near Banbury, tragically died in a helicopter crash while participating in a flying lesson on the Isle of Wight. The helicopter was a Robinson R44 II helicopter that spiraled out of control and crashed into a field near the A3020, between Whiteley Bank and Shanklin. The crash took place at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025 and it was operated by Northumbria Helicopters. According to reports, the helicopter had departed Sandown Airport around 9 a.m. and was engaged in an instructional flight with four people onboard, including the pilot.

Meanwhile, a fourth person who was airlifted is yet to be identified but is said to be in his 30s. While, at the time of writing this piece, there isn’t much information about the fourth person, however, he is now in stable condition, as per media reports.

According to a statement given by Simon Hewitt’s partner, and family, he was the “most wonderful, kind, and intelligent man, and father.”

Although, as of now, we don’t have much information about Simon Hewitt of Barton, however, according to the counts given by Northumbria Helicopters Spokesperson, he was the pilot of the helicopter, and was known as age 54 Captain Simon Hewitt of Barton.

In his words, the spokesperson said that Simon Hewitt was not just a respected member of the team, but also an amazing family man. An investigation in the case is still ongoing and as per authorities the investigation is likely to end at the crash site by August 27.

Northumbria Helicopters, operator of the helicopter, described Simon as an “immensely respected member of our team” and said Mr Hewitt would be “truly missed”, describing him as an “immensely respected member of our team” and “truly wonderful family man”.
