If you’re an avid football fan, chances are you might’ve been already aware of the fact that Friday’s opening game between Liverpool vs Bournemouth was halted in the first half, leaving fans stunned and shocked as to why the match was paused in the middle. Earlier, reports emerged that Friday’s opening match between Liverpool vs Bournemouth was paused in the first-half after 25-year-old footballer, Antoine Semenyo, was racially abused by someone.

What Exactly Happened?

The professional player, who plays as a forward for AFC Bournemouth scored twice in 12-minutes in the game, and his team seemed to be levelling up, however, the reigning champions took the lead after scoring two late goals in the game and ended the match 4-2.

However, during the interesting match, the authorities evicted a 47-year-old man, who racially abused Antoine who also plays for the Ghana National team. The incident took place when the Bournemouth player was taking a throw in with the Liverpool fan in a wheelchair directed racist abuses at him.

What Did the Authorities Say?

As per the counts given by Merseyside Police, they ejected the seemingly disabled man in a wheelchair sat near the touchline from the Anfield crowd, following reports of racist abuse directed towards a professional player. The case is currently being investigated by the authorities but the identity of the 47 year old Liverpool still hasn’t been disclosed.

Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, earlier told the media that they take these kinds of incidents “very seriously,” and in cases like this the authorities “proactively seek football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.”

After Friday’s game ended, the 6 feet 1 inch (1.85m) tall player, took to his Instagram account, which goes by the name @antoinesemenyo42, wherein he has garnered over 180K followers, and revealed more the racial abuse that he had received, and captioned the post as “When will it stop.”

To which, Meta said they are investigating the matter and will likely take strict action against any offending comments and accounts.

Why Was The Liverpool vs Bournemouth Match Paused?

As aforesaid, the Liverpool vs Bournemouth match was halted by referee Anthony Taylor after being aware of the abuse at the 29th-minute. Instantly the referee called both teams’ captains Virgil van Dijk and Adam Smith to briefed about the situation before the match resumed 4-minutes later, while the score was still 0-0.

The captain of Bournemouth, earlier, in a statement said that he was “shocked” after learning about the incident and that “something needs to be done,” about these kinds of situations. Once the half-time whistle had blown, an anti-discrimination message was read out to the crowd.
