Taylor Tannenbaum facing backlash for liking anti-Trump Video
An ESPN ACC reporter named Taylor Tannenbaum recently drew criticism after liking a video featuring a UCLA valedictorian denouncing Trump and ICE. Netizens saw the gesture as a political statement, which potentially violates ESPN’s longstanding stance against employees expressing political opinions publicly. The incident has since reignited all kinds of discussions over perceived double standards within ESPN. This is because ESPN have carried out past disciplinary actions against other on-air talents for social media behavior deemed politically controversial.
In the 1 minute 14-second viral video, Jamie Han can be seen donning a black outfit and holding a file, appears to be her speech that she may have wrote to read it out loud. In her statement, the woman can be seen emphasizing that “Education, free speech, and democracy itself is being threatened by the very same institutions that claim to value it.”

“Excuse my language, but to that I say, fu** ICE and fu** the Trump administration,” Han said.
During her speech, a loud cheer and clapping can be heard in the background as she mentions that these institutions are threatening the free speech and education “In a country that only refuses to protect, but actively persecutes, scapegoats, and villainizes the indisputable backbone of immigrants who make America what it is.”
Jamie Han is a Chinese-American actress with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Film, Television, & Digital Media from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and formerly a nationally ranked orator, Jamie has competed at major national speech and debate championships.

The incident has sparked all kinds of reactions across social media as netizens quickly voiced outrage over ESPN’s apparent inaction, as compared to past punishments of reporters who posted conservative views. One user tweeted:
Weird that @espn threatened people like Sage and Ashley Brewer and Sam Ponder for social media activity but I’m sure they’ll take no action on whoever @TaylorTannebaum is for being cool w/UCLA Valedictorian and her ‘(expletive) trump’ and ‘(expletive) ICE’… (Probably) gets a raise.”
Another user commented:
Under the precedent ESPN has set, Tannebaum should have already been contacted by network brass—if not disciplined. After all, Ponder was scolded for ‘liking’ a tweet that stated a biological fact. But don’t expect it.”
