Former Miss Universe Jamaica Contestant Tanya Spaulding found dead
Tanya Spaulding, who was a 2023 Miss Universe Jamaica finalist and a rising professional in finance, was recently found dead at her Kingston home on Tuesday evening, September 23. Authorities later confirmed that Tanya Spaulding was discovered unresponsive by her family members as she was found hanging from the curtains, following which they immediately alerted emergency services. However, upon the arrival of emergency officials, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have since launched an investigation, treating the case as a suspected suicide while awaiting autopsy results.
Cause of death
As of now, the Jamaica Constabulary Force has not yet released an official cause of death, but investigators state that early evidence points to suicide. Prior to her death, Spaulding had openly shared her battles with mental health on social media, posting videos and messages about the intrusive thoughts that she was experiencing. One of her widely shared clips featured her saying:
“I’m fighting for my life… my mind is trying to kill me.”
Meanwhile, in another clip, she stated:
“Every day I get up, my mind tells me to go and jump off a building… overdose on pills… hang myself.”
