He is currently 73 years old and is best known as the husband of the newly elected Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi. Political career
Taku Yamamoto entered national politics back in the early 2000s and won a seat in the House of Representatives in 2003. He won the seat representing Fukui Prefecture, and throughout his 18-year career, he has held various positions. He strongly aligns with the LDP’s conservative wing and has focused on regional development and economic stability. Taku ran his last campaign in 2024 but failed to secure a re-election, marking the end of his time in national office.
Wife and children
Taku Yamamoto married Sanae Takaichi back in 2004, before an eventual divorce in 2017. The couple, however, remarried in 202,1 and their relationship sparked interest for its unusual nature in Japanese politics. This is because after their remarriage, Yamamoto seemingly took his wife’s surname and became legally known as Taku Takaichi. He has two daughters and a son from a previous marriage, and no children together with Sanae with her unable to bear children after her surgery.
