The death of a beloved NYC college professor is being investigated as suspicious after she was found dead in her Brooklyn apartment with bruising on her neck.

According to reports, her husband first discovered her lying in bed and immediately called 911, following which, first responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Claudia Brandenburg found dead inside apartment
Authorities in New York City reportedly discovered the dead body of a college professor named Claudia Brandenburg at around 7:45 a.m. inside her co-op, located near 17th Street, just a few blocks away from Greenwood Cemetery. According to official police sources, she had visible bruising on her neck and bloodshot eyes, prompting investigators to treat the case as suspicious. Upon inquiry, neighbors described the building as a quiet four-story co-op and expressed shock at her sudden death.
Cause of death
As of now, the official cause of death has not yet been determined, but the city’s medical examiner is set to perform an autopsy to establish the nature of Brandenburg’s injuries. The autopsy will also determine whether Claudia died of natural causes or due from some criminal activity. According to official police reports, authorities found early signs, including markings on her neck and foul play is being suspected/

Following the news of her tragic death, colleagues and students have been posting tributes and condolences online. Erin Johnson, who is the undergraduate director of Studio Art at NYU Steinhardt, stated:
“She was loved by her students and colleagues. She brought warmth, rigor, and excitement to the relationship between design and fine art. She was a true inspiration to her students. She’s irreplaceable and will be lovingly remembered by every student who had the opportunity to work with her.”
One of her neighbors described her as “a very nice lady” and praised her leadership within the co-op community, saying:
“She was a force of nature. She was the president of our co-op. Everyone is just hoping that it’s natural causes.”

Claudia Brandenburg founded her own design studio, called Language Arts, and often worked with prominent clients. Besides working there, she also held two teaching posts, one as a part-time assistant professor at Parsons School of Design since 2002, and another as an adjunct professor at NYU’s Steinhardt School since 2015. She had previously worked at Bureau NY, The New York Times Magazine, and Architecture magazine.
