Robbie Brewer was a veteran stock-car driver who tragically passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Brewer passed away amidst competing in a race at the iconic Bowman Gray Stadium. He was scheduled to race in two 20-lap events but sadly crashed his car into the wall between turns three and four. As track workers attempted a swift rescue operation by cutting open the vehicle’s roof and transporting him to the hospital, he was eventually pronounced dead.

According to official reports, the 53-year-old racer’s cause of death was stated as a heart attack in the middle of his race.

Following the news of his tragic death, tributes and condolences have come pouring in, with the Bowman Gray Stadium officially stating:

We are saddened by the passing of Robbie Brewer after he was transported to an area medical facility following an on-track medical incident during last night’s event at Bowman Gray Stadium. Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends at this time.”

Meanwhile, Robbie’s daughter, Courtney Marquette, also paid an emotional tribute, stating:

I didn’t just lose my dad, many people just lost a best friend, mentor, their sh*t talking buddy, or someone they could just have a great time with, he had a smile that was contagious & I have never been more glad to look just like my dad than I am right now.”

Brewer’s longtime friend and fellow racer Brad Lewis shared on Facebook:

Robbie was a mentor, a fierce competitor, and the guy who could light up any room—or any track. He’ll be missed more than words can say.”

Fans also expressed their heartbreak, stating:

He quickly earned his place as a respected driver in the Bowman Gray Racing community, racing professionally for over 35 years. He was known for his mechanical skills and competitive edge, and even mentored younger racers.

During his time as a racer, he was celebrated for his Sportsman and Modified Tour wins and he was a mainstay at the local racing circuit.

Robbie Brewer leaves behind his daughter, Courtney Marquette, and his grandson, who was born in July 2025.

Although he wasn’t married, he was engaged to fiancée, Angel McCarter who shared an emotional tribute on social media, saying the couple had just returned from vacation after celebrating her child’s second birthday and making so many sweet memories. She said Brewer was eager to get back on the track and that his first practice went great.

The two had recently obtained their marriage license on July 26 and were planning to be married on August 25, exactly one year after their engagement. She thanked friends and the racing community for their support, asking for prayers for Brewer’s daughters, his father, stepmother, sister and aunt.

“I will never forget that long walk down the halls at Baptist Hospital — that moment is forever etched in my soul. Robbie left this world in a way so fitting for the man he was — doing what he loved most,” she said.
