Shivam Lohakare breaks Neeraj Chopra’s 2018 record

Shivam Lohakare recently made headlines during the 74th Inter Services Athletics Championship after he surpassed Neeraj Chopra’s Services men’s javelin record set in 2018. Lohakare launched the javelin to a massive 84.31m, and broke Chopra’s 2018 mark of 83.80m. Although the throw won’t be counted in official world athletics records, since the event is non-certified, Lohakare’s performance still garnered plenty of attention. Neeraj Chopra himself praised the youngster and acknowledged the record-breaking effort as a sign of promise for India’s javelin future.

Shivam Lohakare is a young and upcoming Indian javelin thrower who has quickly risen through the ranks with consistent performances. He is known for his strong technique and competitive spirit and has emerged as one of the most exciting names in athletics this season. Shivam has achieved success in both domestic tournaments and international circuit events, demonstrating remarkable composure in big events despite his young age. Moreover, Shivam Lohakare is currently just 20 years old, and he is a strong prospect for India’s future on the global stage.

The 20-year-old javelin thrower is from Maharashtra’s Sonai village in Ahmednagar. His parents are farmers.

Shivam Lohakare career and achievements

Shivam Lohakare has only just started making waves, attaining his career breakthrough this season after consistently crossing the 80m mark. His recent record throw of 84.31m drew nationwide attention, but it was just one of his many notable performances this year. Earlier this year, Shivam stunned audiences during the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Pune with a personal best of 80.95m.

He also won a silver in Bhubaneswar and impressed greatly at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event with an 80.73m throw. He has so far crossed the 80m barrier four times this season, showing consistency that only elite javelin throwers achieve. If Shivam continues this consistent performance, he could represent India at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games very soon.
