As social media users rushed to identify her, some netizens ragged in some innocent names in the chaos, with one of them being Cheryl Richardson Wagner.

After a viral video of the ball snatching incident quickly spread online, netizens pinned the identity of “Phillies Karen” on Cheryl Richardson Wagner. The claim soon gained traction as thousands of netizens shared unverified posts on X and Facebook. Some users even insisted that Cheryl had been fired from her teaching job over the controversy. However, Cheryl quickly broke her silence, and denyied any connection to the woman in the viral clip. She also emphasized in a Facebook post, stating:
“OK everyone… I’m NOT the crazy Philly Mom (though I’d love to be as thin as she is and move that fast)… and I’m a Red Sox fan.”
