While the upcoming auction may be smaller in scale, it still carries huge weight for franchises that are looking to fine-tune their rosters.

IPL 2026 mini auction date and venue

The IPL 2026 mini-auction is expected to take place on 15th December 2025 in Mumbai, but the BCCI has yet to confirm it officially. As of now, Mumbai remains the preferred venue due to its IPL legacy and logistics, while Delhi is a viable backup. The auction will be a one-day event, and it will mark the start of squad reshuffles.

The auction is expected to be held in the December 13–15 window with teams required to submit the retained players list by 15 Novermber, 2025. The auction will be live streamed on Jio Hotstar. The IPL 2025 auction began at 3:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) but the 2026 date and time is yet to be revealed.

CSK is likely to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and Devon Conway with Ashwin having already retired.

Mohammed Shami, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, T Natarajan, and Wanindu Hasaranga could also be released by their IPL 2025 franchises.

IPL 2026 auction rules and format

This year’s auction will follow the same mini-auction format, but it will include key updates in retention and spending rules. Franchises can now retain or use their RTM (Right to Match) cards for up to six players, with a cap of five capped players (Indian or overseas) and two uncapped ones. Teams can use the RTM cards to reclaim released players by matching the highest bid placed by another franchise. This year, the BCCI has increased the salary cap to ₹151 crore per franchise. Players will also receive an additional ₹7.5 lakh match fee per game, which will help boost their overall earnings.
