Earlier, reports surfaced suggesting that Hiromasa Urakawa left us for his heavenly abode, shortly after the death of Shigetoshi Kotari.

As per the information provided by the WBO, earlier Japanese boxer Shigetoshi Kotari died due to brain injuries during a fight with Yamato Hata in Tokyo, wherein the deceased player fought out a draw.

Now, after the demise of Kotari, another news surfaced that 28-year-old boxer, Hiromasa Urakawa passed away on Sunday following a bout with Yoji Saito on August 2, in the same event in Tokyo.

What Did the World Boxing Organization Say?

In a statement earlier, the WBO mourned the demise of “Japanese boxer Hiromasa Urakawa,” who tragically lost his life to injuries that he sustained during a bout with Yoji Saito on August 2 in the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Urakawa, 28, died on Saturday after he was beaten via knockout in the eighth round of his fight with Yoji Saito after he had undergone a craniotomy in an attempt to save his life.

As per the statement given by the WBO, this heartbreaking update came out just after the tragical death of Kotari, who also sustained the same brain injuries in the same fight card.

Shigetoshi Kotari, 28, collapsed shortly after completing a 12-round draw against Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation junior lightweight champion Yamato Hata and underwent emergency brain surgery for a subdural hematoma, a condition where blood collects between the brain and skull but died on Friday.

The Japanese Boxing Commission has announced all OPBF title bouts will now be reduced from 12 rounds to 10.

Who was Hiromasa Urakawa?

Born on March 7, 1997, in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, Japan, Hiromasa Urakawa, was a professional lightweight boxer. The pro boxer fought 14 times as a professional and had a record of 10-4-0, meaning his boxing record included 10 wins, 4 losses, and no draws.


Hiromasa Urakawa was 5 feet 10 inches (178cm) tall, and weighed 134.8 lbs. The professional boxer was affiliated with Teiken Gym.

His Instagram profile, which goes by the name @hiromasa_7, garnered over 1K followers and revealed a link of his Teiken profile, as per which, the player was inspired to become a boxer after he “saw a match with an acquaintance and wanted to try it out.”

As per his profile, his favorite boxer were Jorge Linares and Kenichi Ogawa. Meanwhile, the another boxer who passed away a day prior to Urakawa, Kotari was a featherweight boxer, who contested in a total of 12 bouts with a record of 8-2-2.
