The untimely demise of Liverpool’s star player, had left everyone in shock and heartbroken, as social media platforms were flooded with tributes, and condolences messages. And now, the Premier League clubs are paying their tributes, as they announced they will be wearing black armbands in their opening match, this weekend.
As per media reports, all Premier League clubs have come together in support to pay their respect to Diogo Jota, with a few seconds of silence before their game begins. Multiple reports suggest that, the tribute will be paid across the nation for Diogo Jota.
As aforesaid, every Premier League club across the nation, will be wearing black armbands on the opening weekend in tribute to the forward and his brother Andre Silva.

The Liverpool star, who signed with the club in 2020 after leaving Wolves, passed away at the age of 28, in a car crash alongside his brother. During a community shield’ on last Sunday, a heartfelt tribute was also paid in his memory.
During the match between Liverpool vs Crystal Palace, both teams wore black armbands in Jota and his brothers’ memory and observed a few minutes of silence before the game vegan, and they will do it again this weekend, alongside all other teams.
Who were Diogo Jota and Andre Silva?
Diogo Jota, whose full name was Diogo José Teixeira da Silva, was a Portuguese professional footballer, who played as a winger and a forward. The 5 feet 10 inches (1.78m), tall player began his career with Pacos de Ferreira, before eventually moving to Atletico Madrid in 2016.

In 2020, the winger signed a deal with Liverpool for £41 million. At the club, the player played a total of 182 games, and scored 65 goals over 5 seasons, winning the 2024-25 premier league, one FA cup, and two EFL cups.
His brother, Andre Silva, who lost his life alongside Jota, was also a professional footballer, who began playing at Gondomar, and then switched to Pacos de Ferreira at a youth level. Before their demise, Andre Silva was playing for Liga Portugal 2 side Penafiel.
Cause of Death
As per media reports, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva passed away on July 3, 2025, in a car crash in the province of Zamora in Spain, while the footballer was returning to his club Liverpool for pre-season training.
Marital Status
Jota recently walked down the aisle with a woman named Rute Cardoso, who goes by the name @rutecfcardoso14 on Instagram, wherein she has garnered over 1.8 million followers. The couple married in June 2025, though they had been dating each other in since High School.
